Undercover Mystic
I have a friend who calls himself an undercover mystic. In many ways, all mystics to some degree are undercover for God's hides the weak things of the world to shame the wise. Mysticism is the best way to truly appreciate art, beauty, poetry and science as sacred gifts from the Creator. There are three movements or successive stages mystics pass through from consecration (holy cleansing) to adoration (praise and a life of gratitude) to communion (oneness and transparent intimacy).
Teilhard had a saying I like to change a little that goes like this: We are so busy counting the waves that we are missing out and forgetting the tide. There is a spiritual undercurrent of the mystical sense. What I believe Teilhard is getting at is we are so distracted by the little things that we are missing the deeper more powerful big picture that is changing the world around us. The tide that comes in lifts up and gives out more life. The tide that goes out removes and eliminates the debris and junk of the world. The tide reveals everything underneath that has been covered. It reveals the truth about ourselves that we try to hide from and where we actually fight against God's tide and movements.
