Here is a list of books that turned my world upside down or I should say turned my world right side up for Jesus. These are not in any particular order.
1. Jesus the First Century Rabbi by Rabbi David Zaslow (the best book on the Jewish Jesus I have read so far)
2. The Pursuing God by Joshua Ryan Butler (a worship leader and renegade theologian)
3. Spiritual Defiance by Robin Meyers (Christianity needs to become dangerous again and it starts by building communities of love who resist the powers that be)
4. The Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne (social activist and radical lover of Jesus)
5. The Day the Revolution Began by N. T. Wright (probably the most influential living Christian scholar of our day)
6. How Jesus Saves the World from Us by Morgan Guyton (another brilliant water to wine book)
7. Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God by Brian Zahnd (a compelling vision of a more beautiful God and a more beautiful gospel of Jesus)
8. Cosmos Reborn by John Crowder (mystic, charismatic, and scholar all wrapped into one)
9. The Divine Dance by Richard Rohr (probably the most influential contemporary Christian mystic of our day)
10. Cross Vision: How the Crucifixion of Jesus makes Sense of Old Testament Violence (Greg Boyd at his best!)
11. A New Heaven and a New Earth by J. Richard Middleton (Richard's book is much more scholarly than the rest but essential reading to understanding better how creation and eschatology leads our understanding of God and the world around us)
12. Jesus Unbound: Liberating the Word of God from the Bible by Keith Giles (I am currently reading Keith's book but the best book and wonderfully written on dealing with the problem of Biblicism in today's church)
Two of my other favorite authors where I have read everything they have written is Henri Nouwen and Peter Hiett.
