What is truth?

Pilate said to Jesus, "What is truth?" (John 18:38)

What is truth?  We like our preferences, our tolerances, our truths.  We are often interested in many things but find ourselves hopelessly separated from them.  We prefer to taste life rather than immerse our self in it which is a costly investment.  Pilate asked Jesus, "What is truth?  The truth was standing in front of him but he refused to believe.

Herod sent Jesus away and only found Jesus amusing, common, and uninteresting.  Herod never condemned Jesus, he simply was only mildly curious about truth.  When face with raw truth, it may destroy our comfortable world and over turn our tolerant curiosities.    For Pilate when it came to truth, it  was safer keeping the rules than being a genuine seeker of truth.  Compromise is the game many of us paly when it comes to truth.  We hold it fast and loosely.  Truth has a way of biting the hand that feeds it so be careful with truth.

The truth of that terrible Friday, that awful day Jesus was crucified, stands staring back at each one of us.  We rather stand in judgment over truth than let the truth judge us.  We can't help it but we see through the standards of the world with unloving eyes rather than spiritual vision that focuses on the beauty and wonder of Christ.  Truth is so confusing today because we live in a complicated world so we miss the sweet simplicity of Christ and the unadulterated, unmixed, and pure truth.  The Bible says it right when it tells us we crucified truth on a tree.  But truth did not stay dead but it came back to life.  Truth still stands there and waits for every man for the truth will set you free.
