Why Defending Scripture Has Made Us Unable to Read It

I have been reading Peter's Enns provocative, challenging, and delightful book The Bible Tells Me So . . . Enns approach to Scripture is both Christological putting the focus rightly on Jesus as well as playful in dealing with the history and non-historicity of the biblical stories. Some people will be caught off guard or upset with his satire and others will be offended by his dismissal of history in some of the main events within Scripture. Even if one does not like Enns view of scripture which he never really spells out or the primacy of the historical-critical method of interpreting scripture, there are so many good points Enns makes that people may miss the forest if they are only looking at some of the non-inerrant trees.

Peter Enns makes the point over and over that the Bible does not act according to our modern expectations or modern ways of precise history. I believe Enns is right here but what he gives with his right hand, he sometimes takes away with his left hand from his own modern scientific approach to scripture.
